Project #6: Blender

' For this project, I chose to create a bike. I feel that biking is a huge representation of who I am. I get so much joy from riding my bike and for me, a bike symbolizes adventure and independence. No matter what journey I embark on, whether in the mountains or on the streets, my bike is always ready to travel with me. Also I love the colors blue and lime green so I added those colors in as well.

New Aesthetic

I found this article very funny and interesting. The fact that Icelandic engineers had to create an app to prevent people from having intimate relationships with their own cousins...it's just funny to me. Apparently in Iceland, it is common for family members to "hook up" with each other. When I first read this, it surprised me because it's not something that you often hear about. This app is based off of a book called "The Book of Icelanders", which can trace Icelandic family lineages of 720,000 citizens. People can bump their phones together and find out if they are related or not. Because this is such a short article, it doesn't provide information on how this "phone bumping" system works...but it is definitely something that I would want to learn more about! Streets of Reno

For this project, I chose to emulate "The Street" by Aram Saroyan. His story takes place on the streets of New York City and he describes the things that he sees while living in the city. Of course, Reno looks nothing like NYC, so my emulation is not perfect. I tried to capture the same objects/images that are in the original video but they were usually from a different angle. I also tried very hard to time each clip with the original. You can see that most of my shots were taken while I was driving...so the hood of my truck is clearly visible in some images. In the original video, the artist captured a lot of front facing shots of people on the streets. I felt a little uncomfortable trying to film peoples' faces so I used their backs instead. This video was definitely more challenging than my original video pick. I chose this video because I liked the changing images and I really enjoyed the audio. Overall, I thought this was a fun project and I'm looking forward to seeing other students' emulations.

Project 3: Animation w/Audio

Animation: Fantasy vs. Reality

Once again, Jeannie and I have totally different animations, but they work together. I created the Reality Animation and it mostly emphasizes on the violence that takes place here in America. I recreated the event that took place on 9/11 so it's a little graphic. My video ran a little longer than it was supposed to...I guess I just got caught up in my concept!

Project 1: Diptych

My partner and I did not read the directions as carefully as we should have...therefore our project is completely opposite of what it should be.

My montage focused on the realistic concept of modern society in America. While Jeannie's montage is very colorful, mine contains more black and white images. We wanted our montages to stand out against one another to show the differences between the two concepts. The images in my montage show ways in which our society is corrupted; through greed, violence, materialism, war, etc.
